We're trading one paperclip up to a Porsche 911, one Adelaide business at a time. Your business could be the next step.

01 · The story

One paperclip.
One city. One Porsche 911.

I'm Eric Webb, an Adelaide local. We're trading a single paperclip for something better, then trading that for something better again, until the final trade secures a Porsche 911.

Every trade is with a local Adelaide business. Each one is agreed by email, exchanged on a filming day and turned into a 30-second video. It should take 50 to 100 trades to get there, and we won't stop until we do.

We run it as a business, not a stunt. You get a clear proposal, a written agreement, a live public record of every trade and a framed certificate for your wall.

Three rules for every trade

  • Bigger and betterEvery trade moves up in value. No trade may go down.
  • Adelaide onlyWe trade with Adelaide businesses, for an Adelaide audience.
  • One video per tradeEvery trade gets its own 30-second video, posted daily on four platforms.

Meet the founder

Eric Webb

I'm a 19-year-old raised in Adelaide, the oldest of four boys in a family of six.

Growing up, I watched my parents push through hard times to provide for my brothers and me. Ever since, my dream has been to bless them for everything they've done.

That's why I started Papercliptrade.adl: a fun, friendly Adelaide initiative that partners with local businesses to help the community and give back to my parents.

05 · The bigger picture

Where the Porsche goes

When the chain reaches the Porsche 911, Eric will sell it. The money will pay off his parents' mortgage, and part of the proceeds will go back to the community through local not-for-profit organisations.

  • A family home, paid offPaying off the mortgage on the home Eric's parents worked so hard to keep.
  • Back to AdelaidePart of the proceeds goes to local not-for-profit organisations, so the whole city shares in what its businesses built.

Every business in the chain is part of that story. The finale will be told in a celebration video, a long-form YouTube documentary and the moment Eric tells his parents.

06 · Questions

Frequently asked

How much time does it take?

A few emails to agree the trade, then about 1 hour at your premises on filming day.

What do we need to provide?

The item you're trading, someone happy to appear on camera, and a spot with good light to film.

How is value assessed?

We agree each item's value with you in writing before the trade, using a receipt, the recommended retail price or an independent appraisal.

When and where is filming?

On a filming day in December, at your business. We agree the date and time with you by email.

Is the video labelled as advertising?

Yes. Partner features are clearly labelled, as Australian advertising standards expect.

What if the chain moves before we reply?

The Trade Tracker always shows the current item and its value. If you can still offer something bigger, you can still be the next trade.

What happens to the Porsche?

Eric will sell it. The money pays off his parents' mortgage, and part of the proceeds goes back to the community through local not-for-profit organisations.
